She is best known in show business for her appearance as the drill thrall Shahna in the Star Trek episode, "The Gamesters of Triskelion". Pettyjohn was born Dorothy Lee Perrins in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her first film appearances were in 1967 under the name Angelique. In 1969 she co-starred, and did several nude scenes, in the science fiction sex comedy The Curious Female and had a supporting role in the Glenn Ford Western Heaven with a Gun. She was in the biker film Hell's Belles (1970), and played a topless dancer in the 1971 low-budget crime drama The G.I. Executioner.
